PERU
In the largest slum of Peru, tens of thousands of displaced and immigrant families call wooden shacks along muddy streets their home.
Overlooked by many international organizations, Pachacutec is finally receiving some long-awaited help by the newly elected local government, which welcomed Move to Empower to their beautiful country in the late Spring of 2019.
Meetings with government prefects, community leaders, advocacy groups and professional dance troupes fortified M2E's launch into Peru, as hundreds of children in Pachacutec awaited out programming. Local celebrity and M2E Team Leader John Layseca took center stage at a Zumbathon® in Ventanilla to garner thousands of diapers for young women who are victims of domestic abuse, while hundreds of locals danced and national television, live streams and local newspapers documented the launch of Move to Empower with excitement and enthusiasm.
